Christian Andrew Grooms
was born in Madison Wisconsin in 1971 and currently lives and works in Madison WI. He received his MFA from Parsons School of Design, New School University, New York, NY and his BFA from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN.
Grooms is a painter, printmaker, illustrator, graphic designer, musician, audio engineer, and audio producer, working in multimedia.
His paintings, often figurative, contemplate the philosophical aspects of the human condition through abstraction, symbolism, metaphor and realism – often all together. Grooms’ multimedia work focuses on the scientific and functional relationships that humans have with their creative minds. He continues a printmaking collaboration with Andrew Balkin and Jack Dennis at AGB Graphics. His current work in printmaking explores the language of audio and/or phonic portraiture and narrative. Inspired by movement, sound waves, the quantum world and the spaces most often unseen - Grooms translates space and sound to visual language.
Grooms is currently an artist in residence at 100 Arts in Madison WI. Grooms was part owner, art director and artist in residence at Paoli House Gallery from 2007-2014, where he curated/co-curated over 30 exhibitions of local and national artists and events.
